Vascular mapping assesses arteries and veins to help plan dialysis access. It is especially useful when examination alone does not provide enough information or access failure risk is higher.

A tourniquet may be used to assess veins.
The report supports the surgeon’s decision rather than choosing the operation by itself.
Expected benefits and limitations
Mapping can identify suitable vessels and potential problems. It cannot guarantee maturation or exclude all central vein narrowing; other imaging may be required.
