Modified Simpson Ultrasound Method for Height-Adjusted Total Kidney Volume Estimation in ADPKD

by: Riyadh M. Al-Saegh

Height-adjusted total kidney volume (htTKV) measured by magnetic resonance imaging is the standard for risk-stratifying ADPKD, but it is costly. This study assessed a novel ultrasound-based modified Simpson method to improve volume accuracy compared with ellipsoid estimates. Presented as abstract SA-PO0567 at ASN Kidney Week 2025.

Impact of Gasdermin Gene on CKD in Iraqi Persons with Diabetes

by: Riyadh M. Al-Saegh

This study examined how the gasdermin D variant SNP rs59118283 affects the relationship between diabetes and diabetic nephropathy through pyroptosis pathways in Iraqi persons with diabetes. Publication-only abstract PUB114 at ASN Kidney Week.

Correlation Between Arteriovenous Fistula Flow Patterns and Impaired Cardiac Systolic Function in Hemodialysis Patients with End Stage Kidney Disease

by: Riyadh M. Al-Saegh

A cross-sectional study of 150 hemodialysis patients in Karbala, pairing colour Doppler assessment of each arteriovenous fistula with transthoracic echocardiography. High-flow fistulas were present in 41.3% of the cohort, and flow category proved significantly associated with cardiac systolic function (p = 0.032): patients with high-velocity fistulas more often showed reduced systolic function, and upper-arm fistulas carried higher flow velocities than forearm ones.
